The original retail division was founded in 1987 by Russell Housen in Margate Florida. With the advent of the internet sales grew to serve the piano buying public worldwide. Pre-owned pianos acquired by Piano Outlet are specifically purchased from private residences located throughout the country of Japan. Only those instruments that show minimal wear and proper maintenance are selected for export to the United States. Due to the fact that the Japanese people harbor a cultural stigma against purchasing anything from another private individual pre-owned, personal luxury items such as pianos can be located as "trade -ins" at regional Yamaha Dealers. These pianos are then purchased by Piano Outlet, imported to the United States and after undergoing a complete inspection and service for quality control offered to the piano buying public. How it all began In 1987 after spending 10 years touring the United States as a professional musician and pianist Russell decided to settle down in South Florida. The piano Russell performed on was a Yamaha CP80 electric grand which was known for it's portability. No longer having the need to pack up his piano and move every so often he now had the opportunity to own what every pianist dreams of, a grand piano. |

Unfortunately for Russell a new Yamaha grand piano was not within his budget. His search was now relegated to used piano dealers and local classified advertisements. After many "dead ends" his search went worldwide, it was then he discovered an efficient way to acquire high quality, properly maintained pianos. The first location opened as Piano Outlet and had an inventory of 6 pianos since then and with the advent of the internet and Ebay sales grew and now supports and inventory of over 200 pianos. Piano Outlet was the first piano dealer to offer pianos through Ebay and although this success has attracted many competitors no other has been able to offer as wide variety, high quality.
Wholesale sale division By 2005 Piano Outlet now well known throughout the world as the foremost retail establishment for pre-owned Yamaha and Kawai pianos, help was needed. Up until then Russell handled all aspects of management regarding Piano Outlet. The addition of Mario Reyes as Vice President in charge of marketing, web site construction, office administration as well as factory authorized Piano Disc technician enabled Russell to focus all attention on sales and quality control. It was around the same time that the owner of Piano Outlet's major distributership located in St. Petersburg Florida decided to retire. Seeing the possibility of no longer being able to acquire inventory, Russell decided to contact Japanese piano exporters personally. Since the success of Piano Outlet was not unnoticed even by those in the piano business half a world away, it was without hesitation an agreement was made with major piano dealers throughout the country. Having now the ability to import directly for it's own use Piano Outlet now was able to wholesale pianos directly to Piano Dealers all across the United States. |
